BEST OF STITCHED IN COLOR {June}
On My Mind
Experimenting:: Last time I was planning to remove rot in interior trim at our new house and repair the wood with epoxy. I’m glad to report that went really well! My next challenge is to install these new doorknobs properly. Then I’ll trim around the door frames using precut mitered trim and a handsaw for adjustments. Wish me luck!
Reading:: Books? Are you kidding? Lately all I am reading are moving box labels and DIY articles. Haha!
Celebrating:: a lovely Parsnips rendition by Kristal J.
Kristal really made this pattern her own by using an eye-catching gingham for the stars and creating a checkerboard pattern with the scrap blocks. I love the quilt and the photo is also stunning!

Anticipating:: wallpapering. I have purchased not one, not two, but three wallpapers for our new home! Now that I know I can do this myself, I’m hooked. Wallpaper is such a fun punch of color and design!
This floral called Jeanne will the be the first wallpaper that is installed. It’s destined for Elora’s room this weekend.

Hand Quilting Tutorial
Stitched in Color includes a library of free tutorials, more than 10 years in the making. Each month I’ll feature one to spread the good news.
It’s been ages since I have hand-quilted, and I’d like to pick it up again. This tutorial has the basics for a newbie or anyone in need of a refresher.
We moved into our new home on Friday. Placing furniture and boxes was a real puzzle because we couldn’t place any items in three rooms: the living room, the pool room and Elora’s bedroom. The wooden floors in the first two rooms had just been recently sanded and refinished, so weren’t ready for traffic. And Elora’s room? That was totally unfinished! Remember that it had been used as a workshop for our remodeling crew? Well, they left its transformation until too late…
As a result, all of Elora’s furniture and boxes were placed in my sewing rooms. My poor longarm is sandwiched between her boxes and Elora’s loft bed (leaning at left).
My design wall is blocked by Elora’s wardrobe cabinets, while her piano is lodged between my desk and my fabrics.
So, as you can imagine, I am very motivated to finish her room! Luckily Elora is with her father this week, so Aart and I have some time to get everything in order to welcome her home this weekend. Next up: sanding and painting these walls.
Hopefully the crew will be able to repair her ceiling this week too. It was damaged when an old, built-in closet was removed. We didn’t expect so much damage, but that’s the chance you take with demo. Fingers crossed!
happy week,
Rachel
Rachel you are so talented in so many ways! TYTYTY for letting us know about your hand-quilting tutorial - something I've been thinking about trying, but hesitant to "try" on a just finished top bc, well, I'm hesitant! Going there now...
Wow - I'm amazed at all of the work to do and it's wonderful that you can do so much of it! You are talented in many ways and can't wait to see it. No time for quilting! Love seeing the pics! Enjoy your week!
