Schedule your next vacation now! It is a wonderful opportunity with low risk to experience life and you walked away with two potential tile blocks! Bravo!
Wow, that sounds like a great vacation! Sprak je alleen maar Nederlands? Whew! Exhausting but I bet you were even more fluent by the end. I noticed a little Dunglish slipping in there .. 'speek' Learning this language has ruined my english spelling even though word spelling in Dutch makes way more sense than English.
You should feel proud for trying something new! I see you were reading Dear Sugar... a friend from a past book club shared her copy with me in a hard season of life. I really treasured Cheryl Strayed's writing and how it was an easy book to savor (sitting with some letters for a long time).
When we were living in Ankara, Türkey about 35 years ago, I went on a group trip to Cyprus and we stayed at a resort called Salamis Bay on the Turkish side. It was so much fun! A few of us rented a jeep and explored the island. We had so much fun meeting some locals and seeing some really cool areas. I’m sure it’s not at all how it was back then. I’m sure you guys had an awesome time! Brings back some great memories.
Looks like a lovely place to visit! Reminds me of my trips to the Greek Islands. Friendly people all around, but I give you tons of kudos for going it along and having a good time. It’s always good to stretch yourself even though it doesn’t seem so at the time!
Yes that was quite a crowd to find a friend in. Ive done a singles trip to Italy but with only about 8 or 9 which IMHO is enough to cope with. Ditto my trip to Morocco. Maybe a spécial interest group trip would be an idea. My ex d-i-l did a trip to Japan focused on Japanese textile art forms. No limit to quilting topics but youre not going to find a handsome prince.. or even a toad.. on one of those. 🤷♀️ lovely to spend time by the sea.
Thanks for all these pretty pictures and descriptions of your experience. For me it was a little journey of its own to experience virtually. I am glad you had this time just for yourself.
Seems like a wonderful way to enjoy some time away from home! The weather looks amazing! Also, I’m impressed that you are now fluent in Dutch. I always thought everyone in Holland preferred to speak English with non-Dutch speakers.
Earlier this year I read The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak. Highly recommend. The way she mixes in fiction with historical events of Cypress and wondrous facts about nature, especially wrt to trees and birds is astonishing and marvellous, yet not forced at all. One of my favourite reads this year.
In 2007 I went solo on a trip for educators to southern France and Corsica. It was a fabulous experience, really did send my life in some new directions, and I made lasting friends, some of whom I am still in touch with today. It’s scary but you grow so much!
I’ve spent a few holidays in Cyprus it is a beautiful island. Did you get up into the mountains? Well done for being so brave taking this new style of holiday. It looks like a good crowd of fellow travellers. It was lovely to see photos from there again.
Just a matter of getting beyond the couple state of mind. Many folk out there living the single life. There's an app based movement in France called Meet 5. Just others to do things with (whatever floats your boat). No obligations.
It's certainly a beautiful place. I remember the descriptions of Cyprus that I once read in a Denise Robins Romance in my Mom's collection. Thank you for bringing back the memories of those faded visuals.
Brave girl! Good for you stepping out of your comfort zone....true love yet awaits you!
I realllly want to float around in the Mediterranean Sea!
What a blast, Rachel!
Thanks for sharing your vacation!

Dunglish! Yes, things do get mixed up. I say all the time what I "find" about things in English, haha.
Yeah, ik vind ik vind ik vind .... iets lekker or leuk! It's always lekker or leuk.

That sounds like a book I would enjoy. Thanks for the tip, Sandra!

No, I didn't make it up into the mountains. Too bad.
Just a matter of getting beyond the couple state of mind. Many folk out there living the single life. There's an app based movement in France called Meet 5. Just others to do things with (whatever floats your boat). No obligations.
Funny, I heard about that app on my trip as well. People are also using it in The Netherlands to make friends.
