All the blocks are in and my design wall is back!
Hoorah! I’m excited to turn these Lake Cabin blocks, from my friends in do. Good Stitches, into a charity quilt this week. The colors are simply divine for summer weather sewing.
My task is to add Kona School Bus orange sashing and edge triangles so that these quarter log cabin blocks float on point in the cheerful hue.
I’m following my Lake Cabin quilt pattern, with some simplification. The pattern calls from sashing strips at every side, so that the edge triangles are centered.
I’m leaving off the sashing strips that aren’t strictly necessary and allowing the edge triangles to land off-center. Once all the seams are sewn, you would have to look hard to spot the difference, but it saves a little bit of cutting and piecing.
It’s funny, I feel like I’m having a conversation with 2017 Rachel, who decided to keep the extra sashing strips and write it the pattern that way. I guess it shows that there’s not one right way. We even disagree with ourselves, over the years, haha.
Happy patchwork!
