another baby blanket
grandmother sews
Can you believe that my daughter, Aria, has just entered her third trimester? It is a good thing that nature gives us nine months to prepare for the miracle of birth. I have needed this long to get used to the idea of becoming a grandmother. I think that, at last, I am ready to make the quilt.
Every baby in my life gets a quilt. You can read about the first one I sewed for Elora in this post on my archive blog. Here it hangs beautifully on the edge of our beautiful moses basket rocker, which luckily I left behind with my mother in the United States. Aria will be able to use the moses basket for baby Michael.
The blanket is simple and sweet: repeating rows of triangles in soft colors. Aria has requested gray and blue for her child.
Here are my fabric choices. At left is the solid blue which will form the bases for the quilt. It is Kona Cornflower. I showed these to Aria to get her feedback, and she especially liked the mice. Me too!
For the backing of the blanket, I’ve purchased a cotton sherpa. It’s a plush, stretchy fabric that will give the blanket a cozy drape. Just as with Elora’s baby blanket, I plan to skip batting with this project, so that it doesn’t get too heavy.
Excited to get started!

Being a grandmother is very different than mother. Both being very special in their own way. In time, you might surprise yourself on how near and dear this baby will envelop your heart in a very special way. Wishing Aria the best during this special time for her.
Glad to hear you are embracing this momentous occasion!
