I have been wondering if there are any resources matching a line of quilting solids to DMC embroidery colors. Do you (or any fellow readers) know of any?

Rachel LaBour's avatar

Sorry, I don't know of any. What a good question =)

Oh, my goodness! Thank you for this lovely post! As a newer quilter, I’m still learning about different fabrics, prints, and lines - honing my discernment and not quite where I want to be yet. Your post is so very helpful in evaluating the different lines and also in giving me language to articulate what I am experiencing.

This information has always been helpful from your past posts! Especially when new colors are added to each collection! I haven’t used enough different solids to make an opinion on which one I like best. Color and price are usually what determines my purchases!

Thanks, Karen! I was surprised how much I needed to update this time. I guess a lot can change in four years =)

Windham Artisan Shot Cottons—any thoughts on these?

Thank you for this document. It is very helpful!

Do you have to details on Riley Blake Confetti Cottons? I'd be curious how they compare to those listed here.

Thank you - this is so helpful!

Love the Painter's Palette for their colorfastness, hand and colors. Although they don't have billions, they have enough, and I don't have to worry about bleeding. Thanks for this round-up!

This is a fantastic resource! Based on the feel and weight of each of these fabric lines, which do you think would be best for machine embroidery? I love using Art Gallery Fabrics, but I feel like they might pucker quite a bit because of how thin they are.

Rachel LaBour's avatar

Yes, I can imagine that the could. I suggest a sturdy solid like Kona or Bella, but that's just my guess. I've never done machine embroidery!

I am curious where the Riley Blake Confetti solids fall within this comparison. Due to some RK shipping issues, I may need to use more RB in future. I tried some TP Free Spirit just now and loved the feel of it and its color saturation.

I was going to try the RJR Cotton+Steel Cotton Supreme solids for a quilt, never used them before. Have you ever used the Cotton Supreme solids? If you have, is it close to Art Gallery or Riley Blake fabrics? Those are pretty much the solids I have used before.

Sorry, I don’t have experience with that line.

Thank you! Where did you get all the swatch cards?

Rachel LaBour's avatar

Most of the swatch cards I received from the manufacturers, since I have at times requested fabrics directly from the manufacturers for my projects. However, most of the swatch cards you can find online for sell, if you do a search. Good luck!
