Light is the most important aspect of where I choose to live after finding the right neighbourhood. I bought an amazing town house after my divorce. I loved making it just perfect for me. It was full of light and the location was grand and it was all mine. A beautiful place for me to find and center myself. I wish the same for you. Brava!
But its a perfect shaped room. The older houses in Zim and SA also have the glass above the door frame. Must have acquièred that trend from the early settlers. Its the "perfect" room for sewing (and eating) in. Such a happy spot even on the "occasional" 🤣🤣 dull days you get in the Netherlands. If the weather was brighter I'd love to live there. Such a friendly country!!... full of quilters. Here they are rarer than hen's teeth. Nearly nearly there with mine then I'll post. No pretty green walls in mine but round 2 of my intérior decor will commence next year. Have a wonderful sewing day!!

Such a lovely space! I wasn’t able to get windows on the wall behind my long arm, but I added a couple of skylights and it makes all the difference, beautiful light makes me so happy!
Oh Rachel I know it took you a while (understandably) but not as long as mine. Do take care the sunlight doesnt leach the colour out of your fabrics. It can even if its electric light or indirect sunlight. I have all my fabrics in plastic boxes on a shelf unit right at the back of the room under a staircase. Perhaps a specially "curtain" you could roll up/ slide sideways in one of your superb designs would protect them. You wont be happy if you open one up and it has a fade on the rolled edge.
me too. so interesting. my upstairs loft has no windows and that is where my fabric library is... right now. I have a super nice ceiling light when I need it.
It is a beautiful space, Rachel. The light is wonderful and I love seeing how you've incorporated everything into your life. I also love your vintage furniture. When I last moved, about 11 years ago, I had a lot of furniture like yours but it didn't work where I am. Especially three pieces that needed to be wall hung and the wall was solid cement. The proprietors here flat refused to let me do that so I had to give it up. I still miss that furniture (sad face). Anyway, it is lovely to see how well you've adapted to your new life and space. Enjoy!
Id make an Austrian blond, affix it to the top edge. Then to raise it you could just pull on the cord securing it on a thingamajib at the side, then lower it by releasing the cord. "Simples" (as the Brits say!)

The quilt on my design wall is a clients. It is a coin quilt. Yes, it could have been strip pieced as you describe.
