I’ve been working out of my new home for a few weeks now. It’s certainly chaotic, so I am glad to be working on a quilt that I designed and drafted at an earlier date. Now I am in the repetitive stage of sewing Deco Bloom quilt, which is just right for these busy weeks, while the home is being remodeled.
Machine paper piecing is best done in batches for efficiency. I am making four new Deco Bloom blocks, which amounts to 16 paper foundations in total. Precutting all the fabric ingredients is key.
When I finished the inner section of my new batch of Deco Bloom blocks, I popped them up on the design wall just to get them out of the way. And look! I was pleased to see that they make quite a cool pattern themselves. I can see myself making this quilt someday. Maybe I would call it Deco Sun?
But back to today’s quilt, haha. These Deco Bloom blocks are pretty detailed, but I was able to streamline some of the sewing. For example, I piece width-of-fabric strips like above and then subcut into tiny square elements. That’s quicker and more efficient than sewing the squares individually.
Well, best to keep going. Wish me luck! Next time I share an update on this quilt, I will have sewn more sashing. Then we can really sew how it’s shaping up. Have a nice weekend!
These are gorgeous, Rachel! I can’t wait to see more, and of your new studio space. Have a great weekend.
