in shape, color + fabric

It was a moment of serendipity that brought about this quilt design. I was creating a different design in PreQuilt when my mistake caused this X-oriented pattern to emerge. Ever since that moment, I have been wanting to bring Crossweave quilt to life, in one colorway or another.

Well lucky, lucky me - now is the time! I have used PreQuilt to mock it up in bright, happy hues with sharp black diamond contrast. Just looking at the design gives me such a good energy! I’m quite excited to begin.

Although for simplicity I have mocked up the design in solids, I plan to use prints for the X shapes. It’s been awhile since I have sewn an Anna Maria Perry (formerly Anna Maria Horner) quilt, and this seems like a great opportunity. Its large half-hexagon shapes lend themselves well to her showy designs.

First, I made this collage to collect my ideas for Crossweave quilt. My confidence thus bolstered, I took the plunge and ordered fabrics.

I spent a nice afternoon arranging and rearranging the fabrics into possible combinations for my Crossweave quilt. At the moment, these are the ones that I think I will use. The solid yellow I had ordered seems too stand-out in combination with the other prints, so I brought in a yellow printed fabric from my stash to deliver sunshine to the mix.

Today I have started cutting half hexagons, using the Hex N More ruler. This fabric is New Flame from Anna Maria’s Made My Day collection. I adore the plummy purple background. It gives such a lush feel to everything.

Can’t wait to see how things look together once I do a lot more cutting! The only problem is I am sewing two quilts at once, which begs the question: which one will I put up on my design wall?
