Fresh Pressed blocks
starting on a new quilt
Sometimes you just need a pick me up - something fresh and fun, clean and hopeful. That’s what starting a new quilt feels like to me.
These are the fabrics I’ve chosen for the first blocks of my new project. I often start with the fabrics that feel most exciting. They set the tone in terms of color and energy right from the start.
I’m totally enamored of this running stitch woven from Fableism and the lemon fabric, both sourced at Floyd the Fox. They combine really well with that yellow herringbone print, a longtime member of my fabric stash.
My new project is a spin-off quilt pattern for Tapestry Garden club members. It includes the Trellis block, which is also part of the sampler quilt and on our sew-along schedule for March. The quilt pattern that I am sewing now will be included with the March Tapestry Garden download, as a fun extra.
My palette has a bold, citrusy vibe with the addition of this very cool blue. That fabric is Maeve Ink Dash Lavender. That precise color is one I don’t see a lot in quilting cottons. I’m enjoying it!
On a whim, I also added a lavender floral to the mix called Slow Summer Susan’s Lilac. The cool tone reads almost gray, but it’s definitely a purple with a soft, calming quality. What a fun juxtaposition to the vibrant citrus colors.
The first blocks are giving me happy vibes!

Quilting is so neat and so satisfying to me- compared to dressmaking !
There's a quick and easy design you can make with a 9-patch like this one of Rachel's. Make quite a big set (say 5" each square). Then cut across the middle both directions to make 4 blocks and rearrange them to your taste. Quite a surprise how it turns out. I'I'll try and copy from my laptop to my phone.
