Glorious, decadent PINK
with a dash of lemon yellow
If you were making a very pink quilt for your bed (okay, pinks + reds + browns) would you be tempted to add a dash of lemon yellow? Hmm?
I was. And that’s just like me. A limited palette is so pretty, but the other colors do whisper in my ear. Let’s try…
Yes, I succumbed to yellow’s persuasion. My feeling is that this pure, light lemon yellow underscores the feminine vibe of this palette. But only a touch, okay? Let’s not go crazy.
After I added the yellow, the red energy felt too strong. I opted to spread out the red elements a bit more on my design wall and add more pink and brown.
Yes, exactly! Now the balance is just right. And I LOVE it!
Don’t be too impressed that I’ve sewn this so quickly. I really haven’t been able to stay away from my sewing machine since this started happening on my design wall. Plus, the strip-piecing technique makes an already quick quilt even quicker. After sewing two strips together, I sub cut them as coin stacks and then sew again to make a taller stack in a jiffy.
The main challenge is fitting a queen-size quilt on my design wall! The quilt is actually taking form sideways, since the coin stacks will lay across the bed rather than moving vertically. Though, I’m planning for a quilt 100” wide and 100” long, so I guess it could be placed on the bed in either orientation.
Ahhh, glorious, decadent PINK! I adore this and will so miss it once it’s off my design wall. It gives me such a good feeling, which is an excellent sign for something I will look at every day on my bed. Hip, hip, hoorah!
p.s. does it remind you of lingerie? or a pink and bronze goddess? appropriate vibes, yes? =)

So pretty, Rachel! Just curious, what were the dimensions of your coins?
Just to let you know, I so enjoy seeing your name come up in my inbox. I know I’ll be seeing something really special that you’re working on!
Just FYI - I have always LOVED pink and yellow - always have and always will. Every pink flower has a yellow center.
