Welcome to the first finished space in our new home! Aart and I painted these walls just yesterday, so you’re the very first to see the results.
An orientation: when you enter the bathroom, the walk-in shower is on the left. A large window reaches almost to the floor on the wall directly opposite the entry and the vanity is hung straight ahead.
It was very exciting to plan a complete bathroom remodel! I had never changed a space on this scale before. We began with the basic layout, exchanging the bath + tiny shower in the original layout for a large, walk-in shower. The vanity and toilet remained in their original locations.
Once those practicalities were addressed, the real fun began. Fortunately, Aart and I share a similar aesthetic, both falling hard for herringbone tile. It was only a question of color - pink, rust, turquoise? The turquoise won out, as you see, for the accent wall in combination with a cream and gold flecked tile for the floor and half-tiled walls.
Half-tiled walls are a very unusual choice for Dutch bathrooms, which are usually considerably smaller and completely tiled all the way to the ceiling. But this room has high ceilings and a large window, making it easy to ventilate and expensive to completely tile. I’m glad we went for the half walls for design reasons too. The paint color is Farrow & Ball Theresa’s Green. It’s fresh, but not too clean or bright: just right for a wall, as usual form Farrow & ball.
Do you love the towels and towel racks? I ADORE them. I couldn’t believe my luck when I Aart enthusiastically agreed to these features. The color combination is so fanciful and this shapes are so pretty. I feel like a queen using this space!
The golden fixtures certainly contribute to the royal aesthetic. Elora absolutely gushes about how much she loves the bathroom, haha! Suddenly taking a shower is not such a chore. ;)
Well, I can’t believe that this is my home, to be honest!
Thank you in advance for your kind words and congratulations. My thanks to Boka Bouwbedrijf, the wonderful contractor who brought our ideas to life. I’ll also add some notes about the accessories, should that be helpful to anyone.
See you next time, in another room!
