How wonderful to have your mom visit! That wedding photo, so sweet! I'm so curious what she thinks of the Netherlands. I hope you write about that. Elora must be thrilled to have her visiting. You're so lucky to have your mom, so lucky! I lost mine at 17, much too soon. Every day I do things that are so 'her' ... just touching linen reminds me of her. Thankfully Dave had the chance to know her. She was so easygoing and rolled with the challenges. I hope I inherited that from her but I don't think so ;-).
Such a lovely ode to all our moms. I miss mine every day and wish I had more time with her. Thanks for such a heartfelt writing and remembrance for all of us on our moms. Have a wonderful time together.
Oh what a touching thing to read. I just came home from a month's stay with my mum. She's 93 and I realise more and more how important it is now to show thankfulness for all she's given, let her know I appreciate all the good things she's transmitted. Of course we discuss and disagree on things, but there's a strong bond, and although the distance between Sweden and Italy is shorter than between you and your mum, I still know how hard it is to be far away, the older we get the harder it gets so I'm glad your mum is still fit to travel and I wish you a fantastic week and that you'll to be able to meet more often in the coming years. Love, Inger
Your words could not be more beautiful AND true… I am so happy she is there with you… enjoy her visit and your time together(as I know you will!!)… both are treasures….
So beautiful ❣️ Words elegantly chosen, thank you Rachel for your intimacy, grace and vulnerability. Your mother must feel lucky and be so very proud of you.
I too feel this way! I love my mom more and more every year. The little things that bothered me as a teen seem so trivial now. We truly are the lucky ones with wonderful mothers.
I misssss my mommy. She lived to 93. I am so happy your mom is coming to visit. It is going to be so fun! I hope you spend some time talking about the past when you were a kid. Those are always funny memories. Also ask her a lot of things about her life before she married and stories. Those are treasures you will never forget and will make you smile when you are old like me 😂 my mom and dad had some scary lives growing up in Holland, but also some amazing lives and very funny stories. My cousin Lex (Alexander) lives in Enschede with his girlfriend. We email each other often. He is very "bossy" just like my uncle was. Not in a bad way.
Lex tells me "Both of your parents are from Holland, all of your ancestors are from Holland... on both sides. YOU are dutch. You should be living here!!!" 😂
Oh what a beautiful message of mother love. You are blessed to have your mother in your life. I lost mine while still in the "making my own life and way in the world" stage more than 40 years ago, about your age Rachel. Like you, Rachel I'd moved countries, was married and raising children. As I came to appreciate my Mum for everything she was (and I wasn't) more and more, I so regretted that she had gone far too young and too soon, I quietly envied the friends with Mums. I am blessed with two sons who love me deeply and two loving grandchildren. To those who might expérience rejection or conflict I say dont fret a mother's love endures forever.
I am touched by this heartwarming post. It is wonderful to read a tribute while she is alive. Enjoy your time making more memories.
