Log Cabin at Sea
a collaborative quilt
Ok, friends, I’m really, really happy with this one…
Ta da! I’ve dubbed her Lake Cabin at Sea because the work has always had a watery feeling to me and because being at sea can also mean feeling disoriented, without bearings. These log cabin blocks aren’t organized in any reasonable manner. I guess that they are at sea!
Many thanks to my friends at Comfort Circle, who contributed more than half of these log cabin beauties. It was such a pleasure to compose in response to their creativity. I love that each block is unique.
I wanted a watery texture, so I opted for diamond wave quilting. This longarm motif provides even, durable quilting while also giving the subtle feeling of rippling water.
Floris knew of just the perfect place for the photographs. To me, the industrial construction of this peer and the sharp shadows only contribute to the mood.
The quilt top is already quite special, so I went for a simple blue backing and solid blue binding.
This collaborative work will be gifted to a refuge child living in The Netherlands. She or he also feels sometimes at sea, I imagine. I hope our quilt brings comfort and a touch of inspiration to his or her days.

Stunning! Truly an artful piece. What a lovely donation. Well done everyone!
Its so gorgeous it brings a tear to my eye, thinking of the little 'lost soul' who will be the beneficiary of this work of love.
