once upon a Fox
inspiration for a quilt color palette
So the other week I was shopping for a backing fabric for my Rosie coin quilt. I like to buy 108” wide backings, since they’re more economical than using regular quilt yardage. In Europe my go-to is Floyd the Fox in Germany. They have nice backings, as well as all the Art Gallery solids, great low volumes and so many gorgeous fabrics.
I ended up with this yummy stack of great basics, plus inspiration for my next quilt. The fat yardage in the stack is a wideback, Spring Daisies, which you’ll be seeing on my finished quilt soon. But the rest would be fun to show and tell today.
Come see, come see!
First, I needed to restock my low volumes, specifically those without black. My low volume prints with black elements tend to sit on the shelf, as I favor the softer more low contrast options. They’re less busy in a quilt. But, yes, I did succumb to that beetle print, just because it’s so fun.

I also adore the wovens from Fableism and Art Gallery that Floyd the Fox stocks. Here are four that I had to add to my stash: Fableism Monarch Grove Track Stripe, Fableism Queen of Hearts Dobby, Wildflower Wovens Diamonds in Moonlight, Fableism Sprout Porcelain. The middle two might find their way into my wintry Tapestry Garden quilt!
Of course, I was shopping online which suits me just fine. I like being able to consult my stash as I go.
Along the way I fell in love with that Fableism Swedish holiday plaid (top right). The colors really do it for me - so fresh and clean. I started adding things in the colors of the plaid to my wish list, just having some fun. And then I discovered Floyd the Fox’s Moodboard tool, which lets you rearrange the fabrics as desired…
Well, that convinced me - this is a quilt that needs to happen.
What a treat! The fabrics have arrived, and I’ve started mixing and matching with stash fabrics to create a unique mix inspired by that Fableism plaid.
Let’s start sewing!

Mood boards would be a great add for all online businesses. Much easier than flipping through the cart
I like the new low volume fabrics.
Your new project looks lovely - I like the collection of fabrics.
