When the sun shines in The Netherlands, we don’t hesitate to make the most of it. Last week was blissful, with walks in the sunshine, trips to the park, even the first ice cream cones of the year! Frosty mornings are forecasted again this week, but there’s no denying that spring is truly coming. How perfectly fitting to sew this exuberant rainbow as we anticipate the joyful rebirth of this season.

WEEK 2 GOAL
Cut Colors K-T
How far did you get last week with cutting stacks of squares? I didn’t complete all of my color A squares, as they get so repetitive, but I did make good progress on the warm colors.
This week our goal is to cut all the rest of the squares, beginning in the middle of the rainbow - with green. Choosing fabrics for this quilt is such a fantastic exercise in color awareness. Which yellows are more gold and which lean towards lemon-lime? I so appreciate these distinctions. They definitely inform my fabric choices as a quilt-maker.
I am finding that my fabric strips scraps are especially suited to this quilt. They are usually enough to yield matching squares for a plus-shape set.
After green, you’ll venture into the blues, which is where I found myself this morning. It’s surprising how few aqua blues I have. I thought that aqua would be an easy color! I have plenty of greener-aquas, which categorize as jade, as per the pattern. Bright, fresh aqua blue is something I’ll have to keep in mind for future stash acquisitions.
Now that my blues are cut and tidily stacked, I’m ready to move onto the last batch of colors. These purple and magenta shades will round out my rainbow. I can’t wait to get her up on my design wall soon!
