I love sewing all kinds of quilts: from traditional to modern, from complex to straightforward. Rainbow Over Head is one of the simple ones. It is made up of pieces cut in uniform size and shape. Sewing them together is something that invites day-dreaming, an audio book or your favorite tunes.
Come sew-along! Find out more about the Rainbow Over Head sew-along at the master sew-along post. It’s a digital pattern, so you can grab it in a flash and sew right along.
WEEK 3 GOAL
Sew 1/2 the Quilt
Squares are cut - let’s go! If you are lucky enough to have a design wall, now is the time to arrange those uniform squares according to the pattern layout. This process takes more time than you might think. Relax and enjoy the colors.
If you don’t have a design wall, then print out the quilt pattern layout and draw lines to divide it into sections which you find approachable. Arrange and sew section-by section, just as if you were sewing large quilt blocks.

Just in at - a new assortment of Bella Solids. Solids make for a healthy stash! Here are some of my favorites worked out in the beautiful Bohemian Spark quilt pattern by Zen Chic. Wow!
I am have set out about half of my quilt on my design wall, since my goal this week is to sew just half of the quilt.
Once all pieces are arranged on my wall, I move them section by section to my sewing table using a portable design board.
Please do try the web piecing method detailed in the Rainbow Over Head pattern! It might seem like a lot of fuss, but once you try it I think that you will find it brilliantly simple and quite effective at keeping things organized.
Happy sewing!

Your photo enters you into a giveaway for the Nineteen Thirty quilt pattern (€32). Nineteen Thirty quilt conjures a formal garden complete with medallion fountain, elegant flower beds, trellis and garden wall. My version interprets the pattern using a colorful spring palette and the full range of values from pale to black.
Giveaway open worldwide! Winners will be announced weekly in the sew-along newsletter and contacted via Instagram or Substack messaging.
Two ways to enter!

Hi Rachel,
I love your mock ups on the Bohemian Spark quilt. Are you willing to share the specific colors you used on the blue and orange one?
Thanks!
