Did you miss my normal Monday missive?

I was caught up in sewing these long coin rows together, first in pairs and then in larger sections. This is the kind of sewing that its blissfully meditative. No decisions, no worries, only the attention to match seams and keep going, going, going.

I needed an extra day to get her done, as coin quilts have so very many rows. But now, she’s finished!

Ta da! That’s 100” square of pretty, pink goodness. I’ve named her Rosie because she blooms in just about every lovely shade of that elegant flower.

What fun it was to sew this quilt top, and boy did it go fast. So fast that I only now thought to order a quilt backing. Once it arrives, it will be a pleasure to quilt her on my longarm, probably with a floral pattern.

Many of you asked about my coin quilt dimensions. I cut 3” wide fabric strips, as long as possible. After sewing two strips together along the long edges, I cut across the sewn fabrics in 4.5” sections. Then I stacked the sections together, keeping the fabrics alternating to create coin stacks. Thus, my individual coins finish at 2.5” x 4”. You could make such a quilt by cutting individual coins at 3” x 4.5”, but that would be much more time intensive than the strip-piecing method that I describe here.

And, yes, I press ALL my seams open. =) Doesn’t it look nice?

I can’t wait to see this quilt on my bed in my new room someday! It feels good that I’ve already made something especially for my future home.

I move in less than two months now, and the packing has officially begun.
