Six Breeze blocks
for Under the Maple Tree
Today I am stitching my last blocks for this quilt. Exciting!
Under the Maple Tree quilt has two types of traditional patchwork blocks, which add a dose of geometric loveliness to all the wild leaves. On my sewing table at this moment is a triangle block, dubbed Breeze. It falls on the edges of the finished quilt as a setting triangle.
What are setting triangles? Well, when patchwork blocks are set on point, rather than in a normal, straight up-and-down grid, you need triangles to finish off the edges of the quilt.
If the setting triangles are patchwork, you usually can’t make them by simple cutting a normal patchwork square in half. That would often result in loosing some of the patchwork elements to the quilt edge/binding area. I’ve drafted these Breeze blocks so that there is plenty of seam allowance along the diagonal edge. The pretty patchwork won’t get swallowed up in final trimming and binding stages.
Yay, this is coming together so well! Thanks for all your lovely comments. These yellow traditional blocks move like Sunlight and Breeze through the maple leaves. Mmm… This quilt evokes autumn to me so nicely! I definitely look forward to sewing it in a calmer, palette for the sew-along in October.
Under the Maple Tree pattern is releasing in just one week! The sew-along begins October 6th. Sign up here for updates and to sew-along.
