It’s so good to get back into the flow of quilt-making and even, quilt-finishing! Granted, this quilt was an easy win since my bee mates at do. Good Stitches contributed so many beautiful blocks.
Ta da! It’s the Summer Crush quilt. The palette was inspired by my Summer Crush moodboards and the pattern is Lake Cabin, a scrap-friendly twist on the classic log cabin block.
And that orange sashing? Totally does it for me.
The palette is ice cream pastels + black/white prints + Kona School Bus orange. That combo of orange and pastels feels sweet, but peppy. It’s like a bunch of energetic, fresh-faced teenagers on summer vacation. Aawwww! Good times, those.
TODAY’S STITCHED IN COLOR IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY~
A Little Fabric Shop
I’m not usually a fabric hoarder, but these strawberries are so good that it’s hard to see them go. Thankfully Ruby Star is back with an encore collection, offering a full rainbow of strawberry goodness… plus A Little Fabric Shop offers adorable strawberry pincushions to boot!!!
I can never figure out which way is up with this quilt. I like the blocks with the squares on top or on bottom. In keeping with that, I chose for cloud quilting. This way it looks like clouds, but the other way it reminds me of waffle cone texture - very fitting for this ice cream colorway.
For the backing I made a large-scale patchwork, including a few leftover blocks and leftover cuts of Anna Maria’s Indelible wideback fabric. This kind of backing always takes more time than I expect, but it also gives a rewarding feeling of closing the circle.
Our collaborative charity quilt will be donated shortly to a good cause. Quilting is such a privilege of a hobby (not to mention as job). I’m grateful for how do. Good Stitches has, over these many years, allowed me to pay forward just a little bit from that bounty.
If you’d like to get involved, read more and sign up here. We always especially need folks who are willing to take a turn planning and finishing the collaborative quilt. There are groups all over the world!
Hij is leuk geworden, ik was niet helemaal zeker over het oranje, maar het is een echte zomerquilt zo 🙂🧡
That turned out great! And the stitch pattern was the perfect complement to the quilt pattern. Fabulous!
