What a great start we’ve made with our maple leaf quilts! I love following your progress at our community chat and so appreciate the tips and feedback being shared there.

WEEK 2 GOAL
Sew Sunlight blocks + Cut Blanks
Phew, 15 leaves was a tall order! Maybe you didn’t quite reach last week’s goal, and that’s okay. After all, this is definitely not a race. Please enjoy your own pace! Still, if you would like to catch up, this week offers an opportunity.
There are just 6 blocks on the agenda this week, and the sunlight blocks are quicker to cut and to sew. Here’s what you need to cut for these blocks:
in background fabric: 2.25” squares, 3.5” squares and 3” squares
in accent fabric: 4” squares, 3.5” squares and 1.75” squares
Have you ever sewn Quarter Square Triangle Units? They’re easy-peasy and made entirely from squares. Yay.
I sewed those and the Cat’s Cradle units, until all my ingredients were tidy and trimmed.
Then when I came back to the project after a little break, six Sunlight blocks came together in no time at all.
I’m excited about this combination: the Sweet Macadamia background, which is a subtle peach color, with Cinnamon accent color (both Art Gallery Pure Solids). It’s a tonal combination, as the Cinnamon is a darker shade of the background color. The effect is subtle, but pretty. I’m looking forward to arranging these with my leaves on the design wall later today.
p.s. Don’t forget also to cut the background fabric under the heading “for on Point Setting” this week. With these filler squares and edge triangles, you can arrange your already-sewn blocks to get your first glimpse of your creation. Enjoy!

these blocks look fun... I have 7 completed colorful leaves, I think I will make at least one sun block today just to be sure I am happy with the color. I am sure it will be fun.

Is your background two different colors or is it the way the light is reflecting as the fabric is rotated? In some pictures it looks all the same and others like two very slightly different tints.
