Under the Maple Tree: Week 5
dive back into those leaves!
Come sew-along! Find out more about the Under the Maple Tree sew-along at the master sew-along post. It’s a digital pattern, so you can grab it in a flash and sew right along.
WEEK 5 GOAL
Sew 15 Maple Leaf blocks
At this stage in the process, my leaf-sewing mojo is starting to wane, to be honest. What keeps me going is seeing the quilt taking shape up on my design wall. You could definitely say that my design wall is not just a design tool, but a motivational tool as well!
By now we’ve already sewn more than half of this quilt. Each new block added is edging us closer to a finish. I look forward to the final stage of block-juggling, where I experiment to find just the right place for each lovely leaf.
I started this week’s batch by sewing a handful of bright red leaves. That was totally what the quilt needed. Thus I’ll have three color-focused leaves in my project: red leaves, light orange/rose leaves and dark brown/burgundy leaves. Besides these color-focused varieties, I also have leaves made up of all the above random colors, thrown together.
Ta da! Here’s my maple tree in progress. With the addition of the red leaves, it’s livelier, with more depth as well. I’m perfectly delighted!
Keep. on. sewing. We’re almost there, friends.

The quilt is coming together beautifully. (It would be wonderful to see all the participants’ quilts if they are able/willing to share.) Your creativity makes me want to sew more and do everything else less! Thank you for the constant inspiration.🙂
Your leaves are sew beautiful, Rachel! The red really brightens up the quilt and coordinates beautifully with the dark and light leaves! Looking forward to a completed quilt not too long from now! ❤️🧡🤎🍁
