A Colorful Thread: February 2025
Weaving together my life as a maker and other spheres of life.
BEST OF STITCHED IN COLOR {February}
On My Mind
Experimenting:: fabrics and colors for a new quilt made with Anna Maria fabrics. My new sponsor, Little Fabric Shop, has an impressive selection of fabrics from my favorite designer, including collections from the past few years. It’s so tempting! What do you think of these possibilities?
Reading:: Komt een Land bij de Dokter by Michelle Van Tongerloo. Just published in December, this Dutch book shares the experience of a doctor who serves many people who are homeless or otherwise disadvantaged in the Rotterdam area. It is heartbreaking to read about these problems in Dutch society, but also exciting too to see how a little help can go such a long way.
Celebrating:: Joanie’s jumpstart on her Rainbow Over Head quilt!
She has already cut and organized her plus fabrics, according to the pattern guidelines…
and begun to quickly piece it together with the web-piecing method.
I love that she’s chosen a variety of solids for her background in beautiful blues!
Congratulations on finishing the top part of your quilt top already, Joanie! You can look up Joanie at Art for the Soul of It.
Anticipating:: starting my new scrappy version of Rainbow Over Head next week, as we launch the sew-along. It’s not too late - grab the pattern and join us!

Quilter’s Crib Sheets Tutorial
Stitched in Color includes a library of free tutorials, more than 10 years in the making. Each month I’ll feature one to spread the good news.
If you're a quilter, you can make crib sheets in your sleep. Trust me. Actually, this project is truly appropriate for a brand new sewist. The hardest part is cutting the fabric (which is easy for a quilter). I have spliced together different tips from several sources and adding my own quilter-friendly cutting approach.
Today Aart and I are making an offer on a house. Eee! I fell in love with this one at first sight, so I would be thrilled to live and work there. Thus, making an offer is very exciting, but also not yet really, because the Dutch housing market is so competitive that most good offers are still not accepted.
Fingers and toes crossed!
Happy weekend to you,
Rachel
Good luck with your house offer - it seems a problem in many countries including Australia.
Keeping my fingers crossed for the house!
