Arches patchwork
Tapestry Garden in Winter
I confess that it’s a bit of a shock to go from the carefree colors of my Trellis Candy quilt back to the somber tones of Tapestry Garden in Winter.
But when I bring out the fabrics on my cleared work table and arrange my already-sewn blocks on the design wall, I notice that this project invites a deep breath. In the subtle colors, there is space. There is room for me.
I am sewing the Arches block today, which is the April block for those sewing-along with Tapestry Garden. The ovals are created with sew & turn applique. I have always preferred this kind of applique because there’s hardly any learning curve. I will even machine-applique them - easy and secure.
After creating the jewel-like patchwork foundation, the ovals are positioned to create an optical illusion. But I always pause at this point and notice how much I like these jewel shapes. Someday I will sew a quilt full of them.

Quilt Sandwich
Just in - super cute Serendipity 2 by Minki Kim from Riley Blake! Quilt Sandwich has the whole 25-piece collection, 5-inch square packs and a sewing pouch panel.
Ta da! I do love these finished blocks. They make a matching pair of neutral elegance. Only the low-volume triangular fabrics differ between the blocks.
It’s also fun to see them stacked like this with fabric continuity. I could imagine a quilt that way too. So many design possibilities!
I used two new-to-me fabrics in these blocks. The middle two fabric are wovens, Fableism Queen of Hearts and Wildflower Wovens Diamonds in Moonlight, both of which I found at Floyd the Fox. I just adore them both! This was a nice way to put them in the spotlight.

Hi Rachel, I didn't receive the March block. Can you please send it to me? Thank you
I love this one! Those colors are so calming! The design is wonderful!
