Trellis Candy quilt
a patchwork symphony in X
I love this quilt. It’s so different than what I usually make, don’t you think?
The colors are yummy. It all started with that Fableism Swedish Holiday plaid which I used for the backing and as a starting point for my palette.
But what makes it unusual for me is how the patchwork quilt top includes so much bright white.
All that white is 100% silk scraps from a Dutch wedding dress boutique. At first I thought I’d make this one last quilt and then donate the rest of the scraps to some other maker, but no. I’m too pleased with the outcome. I’ll be moving the remaining big bundle of silk scraps to my new home for a future project or two or three.
So, you can imagine my delight to find this sweet pink Paris storefront for my photoshoot! It’s a candle shop where the wares are displayed like delectable treats - exactly the right mood for my Trellis Candy quilt.
And next door these stately, faded taupe brown doors, also offer a cozy backdrop for my project. With its touches of faded lavender, hazy peach and warm brown, my quilt feels right at home amongst neutrals as well.
Gosh, even my quilt holder was wearing the ideal shade of blue. What a serendipitous day!
The Trellis quilt design is all about the X-shape, interpreted, re-interpreted, stretched and thickened every-which-way. I thought it was a fun touch to quilt the project with a softer X-shaped motif, the orange leaf design. I love how beautifully the quilting shows up in the sheen of the silk.
My only regret is all the crease lines in my photos. I foolishly left the quilt folded up in my suitcase all week before getting it out the last day to photograph. Ha!
The binding is another Fableism knit in faded pink with rainbow stripes.
And the quilt back is the best! The plaid combined with a generous swath of white silk gives it a pretty, modern vibe.
Now the quilt is home from its travels and freshly washed, ready to be sent out into the world to brighten up a life. The washed texture is comfy, crinkly and soft. I think someone is going to really enjoy this one! Maybe you? I’ve listed Trellis Candy quilt in my Handmades shop today.
p.s. Trellis quilt pattern is a bonus pattern for the Tapestry Garden BOM. It releases in the March club download coming this week!

BEAUTIFUL! 😍Was the quilting done with a computerized longarm? Love the design!
Just gorgeous!
