I too have made many curtains over my history. Curtains are very tied to the space they are in and personal preferences. I know what I might do there, but I can’t wait to see what you come up with. You definitely need to factor in the privacy piece in that space. I am also enjoying these small glimpses into Aarte as you share more about him. He sounds quite interesting. A pool room is such a surprise, but so much fun! I played a lot of pool when I was younger and wouldn’t mind the opportunity to play again.

I love Aart’s idea of velvet curtains with the sheers! Velvet is such a beautiful fabric and would really doll up the room without it being too busy. I personally don’t care for curtains being too close to the ceiling or draping too much on the floor! I think they should compliment the window area without too much La De Da!

Hi Rachael ,the swag in the centre of the two curtains with a tassel in the centre, is made with a straight length of fabric shaped slightly at each end,the ends are gathered up onto a ring in this case and then the rings are threaded onto the rod .they will look very nice on your magnificent windows. The public library may have a book on how to make the swag.good luck in hunting you're fabrics.

Great reading. I like your style. If you’re adding tassels my suggestion would be not to add extra fabric as it will look like an addition. Otherwise make those velvet curtains girl!

I love the idea of a bohemian game room with velvet curtains. The velvet curtains would look great hung closer to the ceiling. I’m so excited for you. Your home is going to be spectacular.

The swoopy thing is a swag and is made by cutting fabric on the bias - I'm sure you could handle that. there are patterns available. I like the idea of the velvet curtains with the side panel. If you run the print along the top or bottom too you can get whatever length you need. I vote no tassels. You could also hang the curtains lower and use a valence across the entire top to camouflage it. Too many ideas running through my head now.

Rachel, take a look at Susan Woodcock's books. She owns a professional workroom in NC (workroomtech.com) and also has a personal site (homedecgal.com). She wrote a couple of very helpful books on making window treatments at home and her business also teaches classes (in person and online). I'm sure she has easy-to-follow instructions on making that swag. I believe it's essentially panel that's pleated at both ends.

that Urban outfitters curtain looks nice, you could add a huge chunk of fabric at the top to make the length. Also the curtain half circle in the center is usually accomplished with a piece of fabric with hems at both ends creating a "jabot", or additionally a great idea would be that the top of chosen curtains have added pretty fabric at the top and the jabot made of similar fabric. You could even add a trim to the top piece of fabric you sew on to the curtain.

Just an idea.

Way back in the 80's my friends and I were big in trying cool curtains for rooms in our new homes hahaha

Tassels are a thing now! I got a bunch of curtains from Amazon, just light filtering for my new place. I just need to do the hanging and the rods and all of that. I am thinking of temporarily using my old hardware. I like this idea of yours.

With such length, it is great to use rings. I have some very very old curtains from Waverly, custom made in the USA old, and I have those curtains still! I always loved them. Those I am going to use on the shorter windows.

Ahhhh, curtains. I think your new look is going to be super lovely.

I am trying to go for the cottage/bungalow feel. hmmm I have 5 of mom and dad's persian rugs, and it will be interesting to see how this all turns out. Great ideas. Good luck finding some great fabric. Happy Friday, and happy week-end too

I’m sure they will be gorgeous. That center circular thing is a valance… I found one on wayfair kind of similar. I took a picture but not able to post here.

I will try to add a link
