Do you wonder how Parsnips quilt got its name? It was fall, root vegetable season when I began cutting up scraps for the first Parsnips quilt. Snip, snip, snip. In Dutch “a few” is “een paar”. In a few snips the idea for a quilt was born: Parsnips. Well, that’s how it happened in my head, anyways!
I do love cutting up scraps. It’s like cleaning, but waaaaaay more fun. This week I’m making some Parsnips patchwork fragments just to enjoy alternative color schemes. Totally indulgent.
This one was inspired by my overflowing neutral scrap collection. It’s blue + neutral scraps. This concept would work with any single color. Choose a sashing tone that you love and combine it with any sort of scrap in roughly the same color, plus gray, brown and white scraps galore. The result is a rather zen scrap quilt. I like it!
My second Parsnips play is this Christmas palette. I’m using Kona Emerald as my sashing color, just as with my original Parsnips quilt. But this time my scrap fabrics are limited to holiday novelty fabrics and all shades of red and green.
For the stars I used a black print with gold metallic stars. So festive! I absolutely love how this is shaping up. What a fun quilt this would be to pull out each December!
So, that’s three possibilities for our Parsnips sew-along, which begins next week. I definitely see myself sewing the purple version now, because those bright vibrant colors are very much this season. However you can bet that I won’t be able to stay away from these other ideas either…
If you are sewing along, have you already chosen a palette (or two)?
I love all three. Violet and purple are not favorites of mine, but ... I will need to rethink that.
I really like that violet.
All three of these are such great colorways.
I love working on three things at the same time :-D
packing packing packing - it is brutal over here. Fortunately, truly, we do not have to rush out of this house and the new house is 4 miles away. Yeah, that is incredibly lucky.
keeping busy is good. I am packing all of my works in progress carefully.
I hope your move is easy!
How beautiful all these different layouts are. It's going to be a fun project to work on. I won't be participating Rachel but will be watching. I am working on a project and have a couple more lined up. Plus, I am hoping to move sooner than later and am focusing on that these days. I'm hoping it goes fast but have a feeling it might be a slow process.
