I can be stubborn, friends.
Yes, that Kona Citrus yellow feels too bright and a bit harsh, but why should that stop me? Using a challenging color is a great springboard for creativity, right? Plus, I already have the yardage and it would feel so good to put it to good use.
So, I got this far…
And then I realized that I was sewing an Ikea flag! I mean I LOVE Ikea, but not that much. I had quite innocently chosen the dark blue for the stars without realizing where this was heading. Once I made the connection, this would have be my Ikea Parsnips quilt forevermore, and I just couldn’t stomach that.
So, we’re keeping the blue stars and the colorful Anna Maria Horner scrap fabrics, but considering other background colors. How about a soft, tangerine orange?
Better.

Beautiful basics are the basis for mixing and matching patchwork fabrics with pleasure. V & Co’s Ombre Stripes bring a rainbow of tonal stripes to your patchwork play. Enjoy!
But this Kona Thistle is better still. The lavender harmonizes gently with the dark blue stars and creates a restful surround for my bright, saturated scrap concept.
For my next Parsnips quilt I will be cutting into all my Anna Maria Perry (Horner) scrap fabrics. I have plenty leftover from my last quilt, and loads in my scrap collection from years of sewing with her gorgeous fabrics. I plan to throw a few solid colored rectangles into each block to give Anna Maria’s showy fabrics room to breathe.
Like the look but sadly lacking in Anna Maria scraps? Treat yourself to this delicious 1/3 yard bundle from Little Fabric Shop. Beautiful quilts make beautiful scraps!
With most any ingredients, Parsnips makes a beautiful scrap quilt! The color-rich, star-studded sashing does all the work of weaving your scraps into a lovely whole. Just make sure that you love the color that you choose for that sashing.
Still I will have to use that Kona Citrus yardage eventually…
The lavender is beautiful with the other fabrics… I’m glad you are sharing your process with us… I realize I need to just get my scraps out and audition, rather than just figuring it out in my mind…
I’m not a big fan of really bright solids such as the citrus and tangerine, so I am sew glad you picked the beautiful lavender with blue stars! It really compliments Anna’s prints!
