The lavender is beautiful with the other fabrics… I’m glad you are sharing your process with us… I realize I need to just get my scraps out and audition, rather than just figuring it out in my mind…

I’m not a big fan of really bright solids such as the citrus and tangerine, so I am sew glad you picked the beautiful lavender with blue stars! It really compliments Anna’s prints!

I literally laughed out loud on the IKEA flag result! Too funny. Love the colour combination, but yes, I'd be wary of that also. On the other hand, maybe your local store would buy it to display in their store? lol I LOVE, love, love that lavender. Now you have me tempted by another squirrel!

This is a really fun squirrel! Haha. But maybe I say that every time? =)

I was thinking of mid-blue sashing with yellow stars, as the quilt will be a pressie for my wonderful Ukrainian friend who is having rather a hard time at the mo with breast cancer. But now I just see IKEA after your story (which made me laugh). I think I need to take a cuppa and sit amongst my piles of fabric for some inspiration!

Oh, I hope I haven't discouraged you from your idea! I think I had the exact right colors for Ikea, but other combinations of blue and yellow wouldn't have that connotation. Also, your friend will surely think of Ukraine, not Ikea, when she sees the colors. It's a lovely gift idea!

No, Rachel, you haven't discouraged me in the slightest! The Ukrainian blue is much lighter than the one I would be making, as I prefer it a bit darker, but not as dark as the IKEA blue. Thought I may get away with it for my friend to still think it's Ukrainian. Had a busy few days and don't want to rush my colour choices. My daughter is visiting for the weekend so will wait until early next week to sit and contemplate. So many possibilities! I love your three colour choices, especially the pale blue/grey. x

I like all of them, yes, the yellow is perky. I would not have realized the Ikea flag until

much later in the process, probably my daughter would bring it up and I would think, ohhhhh.

The Lavender is pretty. I am not a purple lover, but that color is very sweet.

I know you are probably settled into your new place or getting there.

We move in two weeks. It is going to be horrifying. Our old family home is 3700++ sq ft and this little place is much much smaller, so there will be some struggles. I finished some sewing projects, so now is the right time to start organizing my stuff and well, packing.

You are moving before me! We only get the keys in two weeks and move another month later. Yikes, downsizing as hard work! All the decisions about what to keep and want to let go of can be exhausting. Sterkte! That’s what we say in Dutch. It means “strength!”.

Haha I’m with you on the Swedish /ikea flag colours… many big brands and names have the colour combos that I love but refuse to wear together now. Eg blue and orange (Dutch football team)

Love the way you combine prints! Just received some bundles of Anna Maria’s newest line in my quilt shop. My store is fairly conservative, so I hesitated to order yardage on the bolt - thinking it wouldn’t sell. But the new quilts prints

are so cute! I am rethinking that decision.

It does. Knowing approx how helps curate just the right fabric. Thank you.

Hi Rachel,

I'm glad the parsnips quilt one. I voted for it! I understand you wouldn't want to share too much about the pattern. But can you give me a sense of how many charm packs, layer cakes, or fat quarters are needed? I want to see if I can make it fit something in my stash. I understand if you're not comfortable sharing that.

Thanks,

Lisa

Thanks for your message, Lisa. I am happy to give you some estimations. I don't have exact requirements in terms of precuts. I can say that if you used 15 fat quarters to make the Parsnips blocks that would be almost twice as much fabric as you need for that patchwork. About 24 layer cake cuts would be enough to make the Parsnips blocks. I hope that helps!
