I participated in the sew along you did a few years ago. It was very interesting. I am sorry to say the blocks I made are still in my wip list.

I keep the swatches in a little box and show it to people to whom I intend to gift a quilt. It is a very useful tool, because the picture I have in my head when someone says 'I like green and pink' might be very different than what they have in mind

How cool! I'm so glad to hear that the swatches have been useful that way. Great idea.

Great to see this post this morning. Just this week, I just showed a friend my progress on going through the book. This may give me inspiration to keep going on the exercises!! Very timely. I think I got as far as the seasons and then life got in the way. I really love the colour swatches. They are very helpful to use to plan the bear paw blocks!

I have your book but for some reason have never worked through it, so I really appreciate this post.

I'm looking forward to really using your book. Thanks!

I just received your book as a Christmas gift! It has been a wonderful resource so far. Likely to be one of my staple quilting books. Thank you for sharing your helpful approach to color!

Rachel, I have this book, my oldest daughter lovingly gave to me. I made a bear paw quilt with the first sew along you had with the book. It looks a lot like the one you have above- the green one with all of the paws going in the same direction. It was very pretty. I gave it to my sister, upon her retirement in ..... 2021?

It is the best book I have.

Are you still planning on working through your book here? I had it saved for March but can not find the post about it again. Thanks!

Sorry for the misunderstanding, Dee. I already worked through the book publicly and am not planning to do it again. With this post I was just wanting to make everyone aware of the resources that I've already shared. Each heading in the above post is a link to a corresponding blog post. I hope that those articles are helpful.

I just received my copy of The Quilter's Field Guide to Color and I am looking forward to learning from it. Do you have advice for how to get started or should I just work from the beginning?

It's a beautiful book!

Thanks, Cathy. I do recommend starting at the beginning and working through it sequentially. I hope that you enjoy the journey!

I am going to try to keep track of your posts and work along with you. Do you have any printable blank workbook pages?

If so where can I find them?

Thank you!

Sorry, there aren't any printables created for this book.

Ok, thanks. Sometimes printouts are limited to purchasers by way of a purchase code. I didn't see that in the book so I wanted to check.

Thanks for this detailed post. I have your book, yet I've hesitated to cut up the swatches. I'm still trying to convince myself it's not like folding down a corner (I use bookmarks of paper or fabric for that job!). Your steps are inspiration enough, probably, to convince me, especially since they were included for that reason!
