This week I tackled the trickiest patchwork ensemble from the Pas de Deux quilt: Still Point. I excerpted this patchwork design from my Still Point quilt pattern to make a splash in the center of the Pas de Deux sampler quilt.
I’ve gathered pink and white/cream scraps for the Still Point group. Since I am making a rainbow-blend Pas de Deux this time, I know that pink belongs at this level of the quilt.
I’ll use warmer/peachier pinks at the top of the patchwork where Still Point is adjacent to orange tones, and I’ll use cooler pinks at the bottom of the patchwork where Still Point borders red patchwork.
This is the 3rd time I’ve sewn Pas de Deux, and every time I feel a bit apprehensive as I approach this group because it’s sewn with y-seams, which I rarely do.
But once I start sewing, following along with the steps of the pattern, I remember that sewing y-seams just means stopping and starting in an unusual place. Also, the pattern is designed with oversized triangle pieces so that you can easily trim the final block to the correct size. That makes all the difference so that each block finishes tidy and true.
When I finish the group, I feel quite accomplished! As if I have super powers or something, haha. It’s the little things in life, I suppose.
Patchwork is starting to arrive from members of my quilting bee. We are sewing this rainbow Pas de Deux together, so it will be complete sooner than you’d think. I can’t wait to put it all up on the design wall!
I love seeing these blocks coming together, one color palette at a time! I looked back at your tutorials to see if you did one for the Star Point block! I didn’t see a video for that one! Would it be possible to make one for us? I am such a visual learner, I think it would be sew helpful for those of us who may need that extra guidance.😉
Stillpoint is my absolute favorite of all your patterns. One day there will be time in my life to make it! For now I am so thankful for your beautiful work and your blog. I live vicariously through you!
