the most Adventurous Pink
rangwali + a fabric pull for my new bedroom
When I became enamored of Farrow & Ball paint colors five or so years ago, one color that stole my heart was Rangwali.
Rangwali is an exotic and bold color, lauded by Farrow & Ball as the most adventurous of their pinks, “exotic, happy and vital.” I never saw a place for this color in a home I shared with a man, but I kept it in my heart and saved inspiring examples of the shade in action.
In March I will have my own space for the first time in my life. As I begin to dream about how to decorate a bedroom that is all mine, pink is a color that comes to mind. As I’ve waxed poetically, pink is hot, glamorous, romantic and demure. It says a lot and can feel so feminine. I will dare to put that energy in my new bedroom.
I’m planning to paint the walls of my bedroom with Rangwali and to hang my Inhibition quilt over the bed. The dark burgundy quilt with dramatic red, black, fuchsia and rose fans will make quite a splash on that saturated Rangwali hue. And that’s good, because my favorite Instagram image of Rangwali is this moody stairway, from @Our_Haarlem_Home.
I adore the drama of this color!

Okay, but what to put on my future bed? I don’t have a quilt or a duvet cover for my bed, which is more of an invitation than a problem. I know you understand ;) I’d like to make myself something special, but my instinct is to go softly. Rangwali + Inhibition is already quite a strong statement. I feel that the bed quilt should not clamor for attention.
After mulling over ideas for about a month, things finally clicked. Here is my fabric pull: blush, peach, rose and warm neutrals. I begin with lots of low volume fabrics, because a light-colored quilt feels right as contrast to the intense colors planned for the wall. The soft vibe may give a sense of rest so that the room is not overwhelming.
I like how the fabrics interplay with my Inhibition quilt. This concept even works with the purple rug under my sewing table. That could also go in the bedroom!
In addition to the prints, a generous helping of solids feels good. This stack of fat quarters is the Tilda solids collection, warm colors. Tilda’s shades include beautiful pinks and reds that aren’t too pure or too primary. I like how they all look together, and I wonder if including a little orange/yellow/lime might also be nice?
Hmm… we’ll see. The adventure begins!

Ooooo, Rachel I can't wait to see this room. The wall color plus that quilt on the wall is going to be stunning! I can't wait to see how your bed quilt comes together. You are the master of color! And this room will give you joy every time you enter it.
