I’ve been working out of my new home for a few weeks now. Wow, the weeks have just flown by, full as they are with sanding, painting and managing all the logistics of a remodel.
We aren’t living in our new house yet, thankfully. There is no shower at the moment and everything but my sewing room is covered in construction dust. Poor Elora’s room has been transformed into a workshop by our construction team! Still, I am here five days a week, whether in the sewing room or working on house projects.
Everything is topsy turvy, like a sofa placed in the dining room while the living room floors are being sanded and refinished. That box has worked perfectly well as our dining table, and the view of the garden is something I savor daily.
Aart and I began our work downstairs, painting 11.5 foot (3.5 meter) walls all by ourselves. It went amazingly well!
The living room is painted Farrow & Ball Vert de Terre and these built in bookshelves have just received their first coat of Farrow & Ball Light Blue. We’re loving the colors so far!

Little Fabric Shop
A fabric stash is like a painter’s palette. Stock it with every color in the rainbow, choosing helpful fabrics like Ruby Star Society blenders. Fresh + versatile.
There are tons of things still to do, like hanging the glass pieces from this chandelier (also super high, yikes!). Somedays I feel completely overwhelmed, and other times I feel proud of our progress. We’re moving in this Friday…
As of last Friday, here is what the bathroom looked like. Our construction team is amazing. I’m so impressed with the attention to detail and communication. I feel totally confident about the results, but a little nervous about what will be done by Friday.
At least the kitchen is totally done, which is probably the most important part of a house on moving day. We didn’t change much in here, and we did it all ourselves. How do you like Farrow & Ball Cinder Rose? Aart loves pink!
All the way upstairs, our bedroom is also taking shape. We have painted it Farrow & Ball De Nimes, which is an elegant blue-gray. The walk-in close room is Farrow & Ball Setting Plaster.
Aart and I also sanded and painted all of the woodwork in our bedroom, including the ceiling, using Farrow & Ball School House White. I’m not a big white fan, but this shade of white totally does it for me in combination with the De Nimes. I’m excited to bring my quilt blocks up here once the new floor is laid, to see how Deco Bloom will look in this environment.
I totally chose the wall color to go with the quilt. That’s normal right? Oh yeah, because our room changed from the one with the blue ceiling to this other attic room, which has higher ceilings and more light. That was a last-minute choice, and definitely a good one.
I’ll return in the coming months to these spaces to show you properly what we did in terms of color and style. For now that’s life under construction!
The colors are beautiful! Can’t wait to see the completed space!
Your color choices are so beautiful and calming! You and Aart have accomplished so much this past few weeks! How exciting that you’re all moving in on Friday! It will be so nice to have all that space in such a beautiful home.
